day 55 - angles

When I run out of bad English and quirky backstreet images, I like to look at form, colour and texture. Over the next few days I'll run a series of images on the theme of Angles. I call the first one Down. It was taken at the Sky-Building, Osaka.

day 54

Tight fibres & Crazy crustaceans.
The cute logo enticed us to read the hand-written menu outside the teppanyaki café in downtown Himeji. We'd already decided to boycott the place around about the whale meat. But the sole with fresh fats in tight fibres got us licking our lips, and would the prawns be dancing for our artistic entertainment or our sado-masochistic pleasure?

day 50

Child With One Arm.
Children's park, Joyo, Himeji.
It's probably meant to signify the freedom and exuberance of childhood, but the fibre-glass statue just said "sad" to me...

day 49

At the local shrine.

Saturday, February 16, 2008

day 48

Shadows and light.
Snapped this one during the week with my phone camera on the bridge over the moat at Himeji-jo.  After a light dusting of snow, the sun came out briefly - just for me.

day 41

Mask, shop, Miyukidori.

day 40

It's been so bone-chillingly cold here over the past couple of weeks it actually hurts. One day while I was teaching I noticed the fog coming from my breath - inside the classroom. The corridors are freezing. I think this painting by Fukushima Yuiki expresses that frigidity and sterility perfectly...

day 39 -reflecting

Cycling to school has given me some great opportunities to capture reflections in the Himeji-jo moat and Senba River...

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

day 38

Sign outside of café, Shinsaibashi-suji, Osaka-Minami.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

day 37

More wet Osaka...
I'm in bed sick today, so thought I'd post a few more views of our wet weekend... The river is the Dotomborigawa, the bridges Dotomboribashi and Ebisubashi. The 'hollow' Namba Building features a Giant Drop. Most of the Minami district's overpasses and neon seemed to be centred around here.

day 36

It rained on our weekend in Osaka - but it was still memorable. Walking down Mido-suji and around "Bladerunner" territory for four hours in light drizzle produced some interesting images...

(Don't forget - you can always click on any image to enlarge.)

day 35

It's just a matter of thrust...

Saturday, February 2, 2008

day 34

It's a milk substitute for coffee. Perhaps its a contraction of "creamy powder"? But wouldn't you think the marketing guys could've come up with something just a LITTLE more tasteful?

Friday, February 1, 2008

Coin lockers, City Bus Station, downtown Himeji.
