Kobo Daishi's Dogs.
In Japanese folklore, Kobo Daishi was awoken from his meditative trance by a hunter and two dogs staring at him. The hunter was really a god. Kobo Daishi followed the divine messengers (the dogs) to the secluded plateau where he built the first temple 1500 years ago.
